When any project starts out, you have a vision of what you want to accomplish. As time goes on, that vision starts to evolve. Budgets can play a large part in the evolution of your vision. More times than not a project ends up costing more than anticipated. Some pieces you selected in the beginning might end up being more than you want to spend as you near the end. Being smart and opened minded can lead to greater things. An outcome better than what you expected, all while saving money. And Who doesn’t love that!?

Recently, on a project for my own house, my own vision evolved into something more unique and better than I could have imagined. When my husband and I were in our apartment we had these pair of iron brackets with a moose head. Before you cringe, they are actually really nice, I swear! After moving into our home, they lost their home. I didn’t have a great spot for them and put them on the back burner. As we worked on our entry way, I came across the idea of using them as sconces. My plan was to hang crystal pendants from them. I grew really fond of the idea, and eventually it was the only option. I was going to make it happen. The only dilemma, the pendants I wanted were more than I wanted to spend.

While I’m not a patient person by any stretch of the imagination, I decided I would wait. Hoping I would come across something perfect on one of my antique travels. Months later, on a day I was down and in need of something to brighten my day, I found them! A unique pair of glass and brass pendants at one of my favorite vintage shops. And even better than that, they were under $100 for the pair! Yes, a thousand times over! I was so excited, and my husband loved them too! Thank goodness, because, I’ll be honest, he didn’t have much of a choice at that point, I fell in love and the price was too amazing. Being the handy guy he is, he hardwired them and turned them into our entry sconces. The perfect finishing touch to our entry. Now every time someone enters our home the moose are there greeting our guests.

‘Not every projects need to be a million bucks to look like a million bucks. Sometimes the hunt for that perfect piece can turn into beautiful memories. Making those pieces all the more meaningful. Always keep an open mind when it comes to design, and embrace change! Because once you can do both those things, magical things can happen!

Tips:

Check out vintage stores first. Make sure you go around a few times and really use your imagination when looking at each piece. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, don’t get discouraged. Go back several more times. New things are always coming and going.

‘Think outside the box. Some of the best pieces are created by creative imagination!

Shop local first. If it’s not an antique store and instead a small local design shop, pop in and tell them what you’re looking for. If they don’t have it right then and there, that doesn’t mean it’s something they can’t get for you.

Be patient!

With a little imagination and a whole lot of determination, there they are in all their glory. Btw, aren’t the moose cute? I told you they were!
